Jesus Deaf Crew

Five Clevelanders attended Jesus Deaf Crew from August 4th to 7th. It was our 2nd year, and we yearned to learn more about our Catholic faith. Although it wasn't enough, Fr. Mike Depcik taught us so much we did not know.  He explained the importance of Mass and it’s purpose. Most fascinating was knowing that the alter represents Christ. Each time the priest kisses the alter, he honors where the “Miracle of the Eucharist” occurs. The video we viewed showing Christ’s sacrifice at the liturgy of the Eucharist actually gave us goosebumps! We attended Mass daily and prayed the rosary everyday, showing our devotion to Jesus and Mary, growing closer to God.

Sister Maureen was amazing explaining the history of Jesus's burial place. She showed us the Angus Dei (Latin for 'Lamb of God') cross, crucifixes, stations of the cross, scapular samples, religious medals, and different rosary forms. She gave us a great learning experience.

Also, we had the privilege of celebrating a remarkable 89 years of life with Sister Maureen—a real testament to her strength and resilience!We were grateful to be part of her special birthday celebration. 

What did we learn about the saints? They inspire joyful lives, give us courage, serve as role models, teach us to better ourselves, and they pray for us interceding on our behalf.

We went on a paddle boat ride, completed an art project, played a game, and enjoyed a hilarious talent show. It was an amazing experience for all of us, working together as a team. We always come up with silly things that make us laugh, and it's always fun!
